Read Psalm 95

This week we explored how God invites us into His presence and how our weekly gatherings shape our hearts. Psalm 95 is a call to joy and celebration, acknowledging God as our Rock and Saviour. But liturgy isn't just what we do on Sunday mornings.

“Worship works from the top down...Worship isn’t just something we do; it is where God does something to us.” - James K.A. Smith

We all have routines, habits, and practices – our own personal liturgies – that shape who we are. The question is, what are those liturgies shaping us into? Our church liturgy, the structured way we worship together, is meant to reorient our everyday liturgies towards God's glory, reminding us of His presence and filling us with His joy.

Questions

Psalm 95 calls us to "sing for joy to the Lord" and "shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation."

  • What are some of your daily or weekly routines? Think about how you spend your time, what you do regularly, and what you focus on.

  • How might these routines, like the psalmist's call to worship, be considered your own personal “liturgies”?

The psalm warns against hardening our hearts.

  • How do your current routines and habits shape your desires and affections?

  • What are they training you to love, and how might those loves be competing with your love for God?

How can we intentionally reorient our everyday liturgies towards God, the "Rock of our salvation"?

  • What practical steps, inspired by the call to worship in Psalm 95, can we take to integrate our faith more fully into our daily lives?

Prayer

  • Pray for awareness of your own personal liturgies.

  • Pray for the desire to reorient your life towards God.

  • Pray for guidance in developing habits that draw you closer to Him.

Challenge

Identify one daily or weekly routine that you would like to reorient towards God. Brainstorm some specific actions you can take to make that happen. For example, if you spend a lot of time scrolling on social media, perhaps you could replace some of that time with prayer or Bible reading.
