Day 3
The Sneaky Snake (page 18). Genesis chapter 3.
Read through the story of the fall of man, it’s called ‘the sneaky snake’ in our Bible which I love. That snake was pretty sneaky!
Turn your table into the Garden of Eden (either just pretend it is, or use some pictures of flowers, grass etc. Perhaps even real foliage if you're brave!) Cut up some fruits on several different plates, label one of the fruits as the forbidden fruit.
Set the ground rule “God says you can eat any of the fruit in the garden except this one (the forbidden fruit).” Encourage the children to start eating the other fruits. The sneaky snake (a jelly snake or pipe cleaner) comes along and whispers in the children's ear, tempting them to eat the forbidden fruit.
Talk about how Adam and Eve got banished from the garden because they broke the rules. If you think your children will understand the concept without being upset, you could even banish them from the table!
Talk about how there are consequences to our actions. Use some real time examples. Perhaps this could be a good opportunity to refresh yourselves on what your ‘family rules’ are and pray for God to help you all to abide by them.
Draw a sneaky snake on your leaf to hang on your prayer tree.
