Connection Activation (20 mins)
If you were an animal, which one would you be and why? E.g. a puppy because you love to run around and celebrate people, and make sure everyone is happy.
Worship
Testimonies (10 mins)
God will often show you His love through other people. How has he shown you his love recently or used you to show His love to others?
Worship Activation (20 mins)
Worship song suggestions:
Read through the lyrics of Doxology (additional lyrics written by Will Johnson):
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him all creatures here below
Praise him above you heavenly host
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Praise him who made the heavens above
One God, three persons, triune love
Who reigns in perfect unity
Praise God the Holy Trinity
The image of the unseen one
Revealed to us in Christ his Son
Ascended to the Father’s side
He sends his Spirit to his bride
His Spirit now resides in us
We are his children, known and loved
Empowered to proclaim his Word
Praise God the King o’er all the earth
Bible
Bible Study (30 mins)
Read Matthew 28:16-20.
Empowered for discipleship
The disciples, who have not seen Jesus since the cross, are told to go and wait for Jesus in the hills of Galilee.
The disciples model discipleship to us here - obedience and waiting.
How are you at waiting? What is calling you to be obedient in?
Empowered for worship
When the disciples saw Jesus, some worshipped, others doubted.
That the disciples, who believed God is one, worshipped Jesus, shows that they were beginning to grasp what the Old Testament points to: that God is Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Some of the disciples doubted (they had been through a lot!), but still Jesus moved towards them. It's okay to doubt.
Where are you struggling at the moment? Pray that you may know Jesus moving towards you.
Empowered with authority
Jesus says all authority has been given to him "therefore, go…"
We go and do the things we are called to do in the authority of Jesus. Are you aware you are carrying the authority of Jesus? How does this change the way you go about your daily lives?
Empowered with a purpose
We are given a new purpose: to make disciples. We are all called to make disciples. All of us are called to do that.
Who are you discipling today? Who is God calling you to invest in?
Empowered with a new identity
We are baptised into the name (singular) of God: Father Son and Holy Spirit.
We are baptised into the life of God and share in his love and community.
How does this new identity define us and empower us? (Think about the words The Father spoke over Jesus at his baptism and the way the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus)
Empowered with God's presence
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Pray you may know the presence and power of God the Holy Spirit, that you are joined in with the work of Jesus and know the affirmation of The Father.
Prayer
Response (10 mins)
How does a greater awareness of the Trinity help you to see yourself differently?
Prayer (20 mins)
For the three weeks of our Empowered teaching series we have used the prayer in Ephesians 1:17-23 to pray for one another.
This week, notice as you are praying that you are asking Father, Son and Holy Spirit to be more known in each other's lives.
“17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”
