Sunday 14th June
Genesis 18:1-15 | Faithful Family: Faithful In Trust
Just for fun
With the members of your household play trust falls.
Craft
Step One: You’ll need paper plates, slips of coloured card, paper fasteners and felt tips
Step Two: On the paper plate write out 1-12 like a clock
Step Three: Add a long hand and short hand with the strips of card
Step Four: Make them Moveable by attaching centre ends into the middle of the plate with a paper fastener
God promised Sarah a baby but she had to wait a long time, she needed to be patient. God always fulfils His promises, but it can sometimes take longer than we think. God’s timing is perfect.
Activity for the whole family
Build a tent or shelter using tables, chairs, cushions and blankets and think together about what it was like to live in the desert.
Explore what hospitality is by playing with play food or making 'food' with play dough or making 'special' food for important visitors. You can make some treats together like non bake chocolate rice crispy treats. Think about God's love for Abraham and Sarah and his gift to them by playing with hearts and gift boxes or gift bags. Play with baby dolls to remember the special baby that God gave to Abraham and Sarah.
Questions to talk through together
In lockdown, how as a family can you still be hospitable and welcoming to people?
Who in your life do you trust and why?
Can you think of some ways you have trusted God in your life?
Sarah had to wait a long time for her baby. How do you react when you have to wait for something you really want?
Prayer time
Step One: Cut paper into heart shapes and get pens or pencils
Step Two: Make a scavenger hunt sheet
Step Three: Walk around the streets of your neighbourhood as a family. Give each child a scavenger hunt sheet. When you get to a street sign, write down the name of the street on a paper heart
Step Four: Look out for things on the scavenger hunt sheet and take photos of interesting things on phones or digital cameras
Step Five: When you get home, choose a paper heart and pray for God to bless the people on that street. What else could you pray about, based on the scavenger hunt?
A short prayer
Dear God, Thank you that you keep your promises, help us to be patient and wait for your perfect timing. Sorry for the times when we do not trust you. Please help us to understand what it means to fully trust you. Thank you for all the amazing people and things around us. Help us to welcome and treat others with the same love you have for us. Amen.
