Sunday 27th September

Just for fun

Everyone stands in the centre of the room and a command is shouted out such as 'touch blue'. Anyone not touching something blue immediately is out (or the last person to do it is out).

Choose different colours or combinations of colours – ‘Touch blue and white' or patterns – ‘Touch stripes'.

Activity with whole family

On a piece of paper, divide it in two by drawing a line down the centre.

Put the two headings ‘strengths' and ‘weaknesses' at the head of the two columns and, thinking about their own lives, list their own strengths and weaknesses.

After a while ask the family to share their results.

Discuss:

  • Which was easier, listing strengths or weaknesses?

  • Why was that?

  • Did your family agree with you?

  • Was your family's input helpful?

  • How?

As a family look at Philippians 2:5-11.

Give out pieces of paper and ask your children to draw a diagram which represents the journey Jesus takes in the passage. He starts in the same place as God but becomes a human, a slave and dies. So God gives him a better place than the one he started with, the highest place, exalted and the subject of worship as only God can be.

A good template is a large letter U with a cross standing in the middle of the lowest point.

Talk about the things we do now and the rewards we can expect later.

Challenge these to find an area where they can put humble service into action.

Prayer

Dear Jesus: Help us to remember to be like you, to be a servant for others. Help us to think of other people before ourselves, to let others go first. Help us to remember to say, "You first!" instead of "Me first!" Amen.
