Reflection
“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” Luke 12:11-12
The verses above were my trigger in thinking today. I have been most struck with truth and trust. Jesus explains that the Holy Spirit will teach us – in that moment of time – what to say….not a process or a lesson, not a text given to us to read out.
A single moment – truth downloaded from the Lord of all creation to human you. (I have experienced this before so why hasn’t it fed my courage to speak out again?) Such a challenge to trust God that he will come through for us in that moment. Such a challenge to trust ourselves that we are connected enough to hear, respond and follow. Trust means giving up independence…. in reality, most of us have not decided upon this.
Here’s the thing… YOU were absolutely, inextricably, undeniably made for these moments! God calls us. We often live as though this call happens once in the bible to hold us to a standard we must strive to reach in our own strength. But… God – the Trinity - call you and call you and call you all day, all night, 24/7. The call never ends and the song never stops. God calls us to TRUST, COMMUNE, MOVE with, LISTEN to and LOVE both God and ourselves. You see, the relationship between you two, (some might say 4) cannot happen without you. You may feel insignificant but you are actually essential. There is much more to explore, share and discover in our relationship with the almighty. When we choose to trust, (or commit to learning to trust) then every move, decision, role and relationship is shared with God. Sounds like a great adventure to me and it rests on truth and trust.
Prayers
Read through Psalm 48 again and pray through each verse.
Collect
Eternal God,
Who bestowed such grace upon your servant Ethelreda
That she gave herself wholly to the life of prayer
And to the service of your true religion:
Grant that we, like her,
May so live our lives on earth seeking your kingdom
That by your guiding
We may be joined to the glorious fellowship of your saints;
Through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
Who is alive and reigns with you,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, now and for ever.
Amen.
