Song Suggestion: I Give You My Heart

Bible

Christy Wimber shared from two different passages this Sunday, Matthew 26:36-46 at the morning service and James 1:1-12 in the evening. For your life group this week, choose between one of the two bible studies below.

Study One - Matthew 26:36-46

  1. Jesus’ Devotion to Us: In verses 38-39, Jesus expresses deep sorrow and prays to the Father, ultimately submitting to His will. What does this show about Jesus’ devotion to God’s plan and His love for us? How does this challenge or encourage you personally?

  2. The Call to Devotion: Jesus asks His disciples to "keep watch" and pray with Him, but they fall asleep. Why do you think they struggled to stay awake? What does this tell us about the distractions or weaknesses that can hinder our devotion to Jesus?

  3. Sacrificial Devotion: Jesus’ prayer in verse 42 shows His willingness to endure the cross for our sake. What does His example teach us about the cost of true devotion? Are there areas in your life where you feel hesitant to fully surrender to Him?

  4. Priorities in Devotion: Reflect on verse 41, where Jesus says, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." What are some practical ways we can overcome spiritual apathy or distractions that threaten our devotion to Jesus? What might you need to reprioritise to "stay awake" in your walk with Him?

Study Two - James 1:1-12

  1. How does James describe the purpose of trials in verses 2-4?

  2. How might this change our perspective on the challenges we face?

  3. What does it mean to 'consider it pure joy' when we face trials?

  4. How can this joy coexist with the pain of suffering?

  5. Verses 5-8 speak about asking God for wisdom. Why do you think wisdom is particularly important when going through difficult times?

  6. How does the promise in verse 12 encourage us to endure trials with faith and hope?

  7. How can this eternal perspective bring glory to Jesus?

Prayer
