Song Suggestion: You Restore My Soul

Bible

Read John 10:11-18

  • In John 10:10, Jesus the Good Shepherd doesn’t offer to improve our lives, or to alter them, or to be an addition to them, but to give us life itself. This means that we are to joyfully allow Jesus into every corner of our lives. In what ways do you think you are doing this well? And in what ways can you do this better?

  • The comfort that the Good Shepherd offers comes from his rod and staff (Psalm 23:4). His love is fierce and he actively fights our battles on our behalf. How does this portrayal of Jesus’ comfort affect how we relate to him in our struggles/trials/temptations?

  • In John 10:14, we are known by Jesus and invited to know Him. We read in Psalm 23:1 than in Him, we lack nothing. How should we live differently knowing that he offers us everything we need?

  • The relationship that Jesus offers us in verse 15 invites us into the same level of intimacy that He has with the Father. What does this mean for us?

Prayer

The active agent throughout John 10 (and Psalm 23) is the shepherd. All that the sheep are asked to do is to listen to His voice, and follow Him. Spend time making space for God to speak. As you listen for yourself and for others, commit to doing something practical this to not only listen to his voice, but to follow His call this week.
