Discussion

1. Religion Traps — The Gospel Rescues (v.11–14)

Peter knew the gospel, yet fear and people-pleasing trapped him into hypocrisy.

Where are you tempted to live for others’ approval, rather than resting in Christ’s acceptance?

How does fear — of being judged, excluded, or disapproved of — still cause you to withdraw from gospel freedom or from others?

Be honest: where might you be building walls Jesus has already torn down?

2. Religion Says “Do” — The Gospel Says “Done” (v.15–16)

Paul reminds us that we are justified not by what we do, but by faith in Jesus Christ.

In what ways do you find yourself slipping back into “doing” — trying to earn God’s approval or prove your worth?

What would it look like, in your real life this week, to rest in the finished work of Jesus rather than striving for His favour?

3. Religion Polishes the Old You — The Gospel Creates a New You (v.17–21)

Paul says, “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” The gospel doesn’t just improve us — it makes us new.

Where do you still find yourself trying to “polish” the old you — managing appearances, controlling outcomes etc?

What might it mean for you this week to live as the “new you” — rescued, free, and loved by the One who “gave himself for you”?
