Sunday 28th June
Genesis 22:1-14 | Obedience
Craft
Colour in the sheet and trace over the bible verse, or if you have cotton wool you can use that to stick on the body of the sheep. If you want a challenge you can try memorising the verse on the sheet.
Family activity
Pick a leader. Hand out paper and colouring pencils to everyone else. The leader will tell you what to draw (this can be anything). Once the drawings have been completed you can show each other your drawings to see if they’re similar or not. Do this as many times as you like with different people giving the instructions. Afterwards think about how it can sometimes be frustrating to be obedient, maybe we want to draw a rabbit instead of a horse, or we don’t want to tidy up after playing. Abraham was faced with a really difficult instruction from God to sacrifice his son, whom he loved very much, but he trusted God and remained obedient.
Questions
In lockdown has it been harder to be obedient to our parents?
How can we be obedient to God if he asks us to do something we don’t want to do?
Can you think of a time when you have been obedient to God? And if you want to share this with your family.
Prayer time
Draw around your hand and cut it out. Then write on your cut outs your prayers for the week.
Thumb: A friend or family member you want to pray for
Index finger: A situation in the world you want to pray for
Middle finger: Your town or city
Ring finger: Your schools
Pinkie finger: Yourself
Short Prayer
Dear God, thank you that there are such great examples of obedience, like Abraham, in the Bible for us to learn from. We are sorry for the times we have done what we want instead of what you want. Please help us to be obedient to those around us. And as we look at our hands help us to remember to pray for our friends, the world, our cities, our schools and ourselves. Amen.
