Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-end | Faithful Family: Faithful to the next generation

Activity for the whole family

If the weather permits, make bubbles and go outside. Let children blow bubbles and pop all the bubbles they can reach. Every time they pop a bubble, they can shout out ideas of how God shows His love for them and provides all that they need.

Craft

You’ll need:

  • Cardboard egg carton

  • Scissors

  • Brown paint

  • Paintbrush

  • 4 pipe cleaners

  • Brown paper

  • Scissors

  • Black pen

  • Glue

Step One: Cut out 2 sections from a cardboard egg carton, leaving them attached to one another.

Step Two: Paint your egg carton brown and set aside to dry.

Step Three: Cut a 2-inch strip of brown paper twice as wide as you want your tail to be and fold in half lengthwise. Cut small slits into the end to form a frill for the tail.

Step Four: Now cut a head and neck shape from the brown paper for the camel’s head. Use the black pen to draw shapes for the eye, mouth and a crease in the ear area.

Step Five: You’ll need to wind your pipe cleaner around the width of your 2 fingers to form a spring-like shape. At the end you’ll attach to the egg carton, bend at a 45-degree angle, then at the other end, form a 2-loop camel toe shape and bend flat to give your camel feet to stand on. Repeat with all 4 pipe cleaners.

Step Six: Use your scissors to cut a slit at the front of your camel to insert the neck and a slit at the back to insert the tail. Add glue to your slits and insert your paper head and tail.

Step Seven: Once dry, turn your camel upside down so you can glue the pipe cleaner legs just inside the egg carton’s edges. Give them time to dry to ensure they don’t move when you place your camel craft upright again.

Game for everyone

In the garden/outside prepare a relay, with two buckets, one with water in and the other without. As children run to one side they need to collect some water with cups from a bucket and run to the other side to an empty bucket. Continue until the full bucket is empty and the empty bucket is then full of water. Another way to play is to give a time limit and see which child/group of children can move the most water in the allotted time.

Questions to talk through together

  • Share about a time when you received an answer to prayer so quickly. What about a time when you had to wait for an answer?

  • Do you have a favorite way to talk to God? Maybe a place you like to go or a time of day?

  • Rebekah was generous with her time at the well, what does it mean to be generous?

  • Can you think of some ideas of how your family can live out being generous?

Short prayer

Dear God, Thank you that we can know how amazing you are and that you answer our prayers. Thank you for loving us so much and listening to our deepest desires. Please help us to be patient when waiting for answers to prayers. We pray you would give us a more generous heart and give us opportunities to live out being generous. Amen.
