Romans 8:1-11

Just for Fun

With bandages or toilet roll race to bandage up as much of an adult as you can in an allotted time.

Admire their handiwork and choose a winner. Today we’re going to be thinking about someone who takes care of us – the Holy Spirit.

Activity for everyone

Get some paper and draw someone who helps people. It might be someone like a policeman or nurse or it might be someone more personal to them – a teacher or a parent.

When finished, cut out the person. Make a collage of all these helpers and ask the children why they drew the person that they did.

Say that today we’re going to be thinking about a very special helper called the Holy Spirit.

Craft

Step One: Find an old plain T-shirt and some fabric pens/paints (or permanent markers)

Step Two: On the plain T-shirt draw/paint a heart - once the heart is complete paint/draw a door

Step Three: Remind the children that we can ask the Holy Spirit to come and live inside of us, we often say that He’s living in our heart

Step Four: Let the paint/pen dry and now the children have a top that reminds them that the Spirit lives in them

Questions to talk through together

  • How would you describe the Holy Spirit?

  • Is there anything you don’t understand about the Holy Spirit?

  • Have you ever prayed for the Holy Spirit to enter into your life?

A short prayer

Dear God, we thank you for the Holy Spirit. Thank you that when we say yes to Jesus we have the spirit in us, to help us, to guide us and comfort us. Please help us to remember how amazing that is! And to tell others of the amazingness of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
