Reflection
These three psalms were sung as the Israelites traveled up to the temple upon Mount Zion.
After exile, the question Israel is asking is “ How do we live by faith, that the Lord is still King, in spite of evidence which would seem contradictory to that?”
You too may be asking questions,
“ Where is God in this current crisis.? What am I going to do?
Psalm 124:8 seeks to offer answers:
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
A name in the Bible represents a person’s character.
When Moses asked to see God’s glory in Exodus 34:5-7 we catch a glimpse of all of God’s goodness.
We can live by faith because this is who God is;
“The Lord descended and proclaimed the name of the Lord. "The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin”
So throughout this uneasy period of history, as we walk hand in hand with Jesus, seeking His face and His strength, we can trust in God’s character, that He is who He says He is ( in His name) and that He can do what He says He can do (by His creative power and might).
Then we too will be like the builder of the house in Luke 6:47, builders with a strong foundation built upon the rock that is Jesus.
Putting our trust in Jesus alone, as our rock, will mean we will not be shaken, but will be shaped more into His likeness through the current process of refining events.
Prayers
Lord teaches us to trust in you alone, that we may be like Mount Zion, which can never be moved but abides forever.
We thank you for the trials, and victories of our current situations, knowing that you work all things together, for good, for your purposes, to those who love you.
Amen.
Collect
Almighty God,
Who raised up Dunstan to be a true shepherd of the flock,
A restorer of monastic life
And a faithful counsellor to those in authority:
Give to all pastors the same gift of your Holy Spirit
That they may be true servants of Christ and of all his people;
Through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
Who is alive and reigns with you,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, now and for ever.
Amen.
