Reflection
The words of this Psalms reminds me of how wonderful and gracious God is in delivering us from our troubles. Throughout we can see how king David is full of praise and gratitude as he writes about the kindness of God!
From the beginning of the chapter in verse 1, he mentioned how “praise will always be on his lips”. This reminds me that despite all the unpleasant things happening in our lives, we should ALWAYS give thanks and praise to God. The more we praise God the easier it becomes to praise Him, especially in hard situations. Verse 4 says that God “delivered me from all my fears”. This encourages me to cast all my fears and worries upon God because I know He cares and will deliver me.
In verse 12, I am reminded that life is very valuable and that something good will come out of each day we live. Conditions in the present COVID-19 global pandemic can make it difficult for many people to see the light at the end of the tunnel. From God’s word we should believe that He is with us in troubled times and knows all our difficult situations.
It is better to trust in God than to worry about things of the world as the two (trust and worry) cannot mix together; and trust will always overcome. God promises that when we call upon him he will answer, and that “His ears are open unto our cry.” Verse 8 says that “blessed is the one who trusts in Him” (Verse 15).
Prayers
Dear God,
Thank you for being our strength and saviour in dark situations,
Thank you for always being there when we cry upon you,
Thank you that you promise to deliver us from all our fears,
Please help us to find peace and refuge in you at all times,
Help us to continuously praise and give glory to your name.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.
Collect
Most holy God, the ground of our beseeching,
Who through your servant Julian
Revealed the wonders of your love:
Grant that as we are created in your nature
And restored by your grace,
Our wills may be made one with yours
That we may come to see you face to face
And gaze on you for ever;
Through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
Who is alive and reigns with you,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, now and for ever.
Amen.
