Discussion

In the parable, the yeast has to be mixed into the dough to do its work or else it is useful. It is meant to be stirred in, activated and mixed well into the dough. If the context where you spend most of your day (e.g. university, work, home etc) is the dough;

  • How are you consciously going to choose to show up as the yeast in these spaces this coming week?

  • What does it look like for your jar or packet of yeast to be opened and to start being the influence God has called you to be?

Yeast works best when it is mixed - eventually transforming the whole dough mix. God is interested in us being transformed by Him.

  • Which specific area of your life are you currently asking the Holy Spirit to work in and to transform right now?

The parable reminds us that God uses the small to accomplish great things. Even yeast!

  • What small thing is God asking of you at the moment?

  • Do you believe that God can take your small ‘yes’ and grow it to bring kingdom impact?

Once yeast has been activated, it changes the dough forever. It cannot go back to its original state. As followers of Jesus, we are called to be yeast in the world - to make an impact.

  • Where have you been blending in too much?

  • How can you start changing the mix so that the world is changed by the presence of Jesus?

Prayer

Pray together over what you’ve discussed and for the strength to step out into what God is asking of you.
