Discussion

1. St. Augustine said "Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee." Looking back at the past year, in what areas did you find yourself searching for "something more" (status, comfort, or success), and how did those things fall short of giving you true rest?

2. We often think of Herod as a distant "monster," but perhaps there is a "little Herod" in all of us who wants to be in control. In what area of your life is it most difficult to let Jesus be King rather than just Saviour? (e.g., your finances, your schedule, a specific relationship, or your future plans).

3. The gift of Myrrh pointed to Jesus’ death even at His birth. How does remembering "the shadow of the cross over the manger" change the way you view your own struggles or the "cost" of following Him this year?

4. God was working sovereignly during 400 years of silence before Jesus was born. When you feel like God is "silent" in your own life now, how does the story of the Epiphany give you confidence that His Providence is still at work?

5. The Magi went home "by another route" after encountering Jesus. As you enter 2026, what is one "old route" (a habit, a mindset, or a worry) that you want to leave behind in order to follow "the way of the King"?

Prayer

Pray together for the new year ahead and your pursuit of King Jesus.
