Discussion
1. He restores my soul
A sheep becomes cast when it falls over on its side, burdened by the weight of its own fleece. It often chooses a soft spot to lie down because it looks comfortable, but this decision ends up being deadly - without the help of a shepherd.
You were never designed to be your own shepherd. Is there an area of your life where 'self-shepherding' has left you cast: exhausted, anxious or spiritually paralysed?
What wool are you wearing that is weighing you down? Are you matted with a scar from the past, a burden of sin or simply the weight of carrying responsibility that isn't yours to carry?
What would it look like for the shepherd to shear you of that wool today?
2. He guides me along the right paths
Sheep are creatures of habit and will graze the same pasture. Without the direction of the shepherd, they will keep on grazing on barren and even diseased land.
Are you grazing in a place that has nothing left to give you? Is that a habit or lifestyle choice you have made? Where have you been so comfortable that you don't even realise that where you are grazing is unhealthy?
What will obediently following Jesus to the fresh pasture look like for you? Are you willing to choose the right path over the comfort of an easy path this week?
3. For his name's sake
In the Ancient Middle East, shepherds would mark sheep with their own name. Your life is meant to be a testimony to His name and reputation.
How does the truth that his name is attached to you give you confidence that He will not abandon you, even when you wander?
