“The darkest valley”

• When reading the passage, what are the “dark valleys” from your life that come to mind?

• When people suffer, they often ask, “God, why have you allowed me to suffer?” and “God, where are you in my suffering?” Have you ever asked these questions in your own life? What was that experience like?

“God, why have you allowed me to suffer?”

Thinking about Jesus’s suffering on the cross shows us that God has an eternal perspective and a purpose for our pain.

• How does thinking about eternity change the way we might understand or face suffering now?

• In what ways have you seen God bring purpose, growth, or good out of painful situations you have faced?

“God, where are you in my suffering?”

Psalm 23 says Jesus’s “rod and staff” comfort us, symbolising protection and correction.

• How have you experienced God guiding, correcting, or protecting you during difficult seasons?
