Sunday 16th August
Matthew 15:21-28 | The Faith of a Canaanite Woman
Just for fun
Find a timer or toy which makes a noise (e.g. a baby/toddler toy which plays a tune for about 30 seconds before stopping). Take it in turns to decide on a hiding place for the timer or toy. Once the toy/timer is in position start the timer (set for about 30 seconds) and then quickly get the others to locate the hidden object.
Initially ask everyone to be quiet to make the location of the object as easy as possible, but once everyone has had a turn, allow those who have hidden the objects to make as many distracting noises as they like.
Craft
Let children cut out several hearts, all different shapes from big hearts to smaller hearts. Have children decorate their hearts with glitter, stickers, and words from our lesson (such as Faith, Love, Jesus, child's name, etc). Then make a heart hanging, using yarn in punched holes to hang each heart from each other. The top heart could be made with yarn for hanging, or with a magnet on the back to place the "heart hanging" on their refrigerator!
Activity for everyone
Give each child (and adult!) two cookies to ice and to use gel or a toothpick to make a "heart" on one cookie and a "cross" on the other, to discuss about God's love and dying on the cross for ALL of us!
Questions to talk through together
What does the word ‘faith’ mean to you?
What do you ask God to help you with?
Is there anything you’re praying for that you’re waiting for God to answer?
Who do you know that needs to hear how they are loved by Jesus?
A short prayer
Dear God, Thank you for Jesus and the canaanite woman who taught us to keep asking you for help even when unexpected things happen. Thank you for loving us so much that you shared your Son with the whole world, so that through him we could be saved. Amen.
