Reflection

When reading today’s passages, I have found myself reunderstanding what it is to praise God. The times we are currently living in are unexpected and fragile for many, some days feel as though we know what might be coming next, others don’t feel that way at all. The Bible continually teaches us that no matter what’s ahead, what’s before or what we are currently facing, God is still good and worthy of praise. We cannot forget this and the more we choose to turn to God and worship him for who he is, the more aware we become of his faithfulness, kindness, goodness and love. Throughout all of these passages today, we see reasons to praise the Lord; Psalm 85 tells us that God restores us, promises peace to us and that he covers our iniquities, in 1 Samuel 2 we hear Hannah praising God saying ‘there is no one holy like the Lord, there is no Rock like our God’ When we read the Bible we see so many reasons to worship God. How great it is that in the midst of uncertain times, we can turn to Jesus, certain that he is who he says he is!

I want to encourage you this morning, when reading your bible this week, write down or underline where you see a reason to praise the Lord, and in a time or worship spend a few moments praising God solely for who he is! Let the truth that comes from the word of God reassure and remind us of the wonderful God we follow.

Prayers

Jesus,

Thank you for calling your people brothers and sisters, thank you that you know us by our name’s and that we have been adopted into your family. I pray today that many people would come to know you through this pandemic, that you would be bringing us together in unity.

We pray that many people would continue to encounter you powerfully through this time, we pray that we would be a church unleashed, and that many people would come to know you.

And we also thank you for who you are, thank you that you have saved us, you have forgiven us and you have set us free, may we know this afresh again today.

Amen.

Collect

Mighty God,

By whose grace Elizabeth rejoiced with Mary

And greeted her as the mother of the Lord:

Look with favour on your lowly servants

That, with Mary, we may magnify your holy name

And rejoice to acclaim her Son our Saviour,

Who is alive and reigns with you,

In the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, now and for ever.

Amen.
