Week 1 - Forgiven Community
Opening Prayer & Discussion
Almighty God, we thank you that in Christ
we have been brought from death to life,
and that this life is in community with one another.
As in your Son we are forgiven and anointed,
so through your Spirit may we become loving and faithful.
Heavenly Father, may it please you to accomplish this in our lives.
Amen.

Read 1 John 1:1-2:2
What is the context of the letter of 1 John?
Should we expect that there will be sometimes difficulties at points in church life? What does this passage have to say about it?
How is your relationship with the church?

What does John says about forgiveness in this passage? How does this change the way we approach community?
Prayer & Community
Pray for each other - particularly for anything that comes out of the discussion. Things that might be good to touch on regarding prayer:
Pray for the strength of confess our sins to God, and to seek prayer and support from each other
Pray for those who have a difficult relationship with the Church, for whatever reason
Pray that as we journey through this sermon series, our communities would be built around the forgiveness and mercy of God
