Prayer

Give us today our daily bread

Opening Prayer & Discussion

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

Discussion

Read Matthew 7:7-12.

On Sunday Ben started by saying that God obviously knows what we need. He's all-knowing! We're not asking for his benefit of knowing what we need. So why do we ask God for anything in prayer? We looked at four aspects of this passage:

Who we ask, why we ask, what we ask, and what we receive.

Q1: How does asking God our Father change the dynamic of asking for what we need?

Q2: Asking God reminds us that he is the one who provides. How have you seen God provide in your life?

Q3: Why does Jesus teach us to pray for something simple - 'daily bread' - rather than the various luxuries we might want?

Q4: What are the greatest gifts that God gives us? How does valuing these gifts change your approach to life?

Prayer & Community

Pray for provision for anyone who is in need, and for anything that came up from the discussion tonight.
